A poem about the Aztec civilisation that lived in the Valley of Mexico from the 1300s to the 1500s, when the Spanish invaded. The Aztecs had a way of life with may similarities to the people living in Europe of the time, including as class system, religious beliefs to explain everyday phenomenon, and legal systems with harsh punishments.
“Advanced Aztecs”
By Kia West
Today I learned the Aztecs
Were really quite advanced
They had these “floating” gardens
In which they grew their plants
They moved around in boats
Using canals as well as roads
They built some mega temples
Using stones that weigh loads!
They worshiped many gods
To whom they paid the price
Some slaves and some prisoners
Became a sacrifice!
They organised by class
And they had their legal systems
Then the Spanish came
And the Aztecs were their victims.
