This silly poem uses spoonerisms, personification and a number of other poetic devices to describe a mouth that just won’t say what it’s owner wants it to. This poem is great for teaching spoonerisms to kids.
“My Mouth is Being Crazy”
By Kia West
My mouth is being crazy
It’s talking very weird
It said things that sound hazy
To anyone who hears
Instead of saying, “Hi Ben,”
Like a normal day
My mouth instead said “Bi Hen,”
In its crazy little way
When I went to order dinner
My mouth said, “Frage Lies”
When coach said I’m no swimmer
It said, “But it’s not fy mault!”
I don’t know what’s going wrong with it
I just can’t figure out
Why my mouth is like a monster,
I might just grow a snout
My mouth’s a crazy villain
It’s acting on its own
I’d hate to hear myself
Talking on the phone
