This funny poem is about homework that seems to take forever. It uses many poetic devices, such as rhyme, hyperbole, personification and simile, to convey this frustrating feeling.

“My Teacher Gave Me Homework”
By Kia West

My teacher gave me homework
It will take me a full year
I’ve got a million sums to do
And none of it is clear

BIMDASS is an evil witch
Out to steal my brain
Questions race right through my head
Faster than a train

Homework is like torture
Just put me on the rack!
It would be easier than sitting here
With my brain just going black

My English teacher did it too
I’ve got a page to write!
At this rate, I’ll be sitting here
More than half the night

It must have been hours now
Since I started all this work
The tic tock of the clock
Is going to make me go berserk

I’m growing old, it’ll never end
I’ll die from trying to comprehend

I moan, I groan
I know death’s coming
I start to feel
My heart drumming

My mum walks in
She shakes her head
“It’s only been
Ten minutes Ted!”
